Status Quo (Artist) Format: Audio CD Editorial Review
**** "Under the Influence" by Status Quo appears to be both a familiar and divisive offering from the renowned British band that has carved its place in rock history. The album showcases their signature blend of rock and roll, infused with American R&B influences, which some listeners have grown to cherish over the years. Reviews indicate that while the album features a solid lineup of twelve tracks, it evokes mixed feelings among valued fans. Some triumphantly praise songs like "Twenty Wild Horses" and "Round and Round" for their catchy and uplifting melodies, signaling that the band still captures the essence of rock that many expect. However, for others, nostalgia for Quo's raw sound from the early 1970s looms large, with critiques pointing to the overly polished production that some feel has compromised the band's grit. Detractors liken parts of this album to a formulaic "Dance-Band" sound, aimed at broader appeal, thus straying away from the authenticity that defined earlier works like "Hello" and "Piledriver." Nevertheless, "Under the Influence" is recognized as a competent effort, especially for a band with a lengthy career, and may charm those willing to embrace their evolution over the decades. While some fans may feel a longing for the past, others celebrate the new direction as reflective of a band still relevant in the contemporary rock landscape. **
